Why Choose Oxford Aesthetics?
Oxford Aesthetics was established by Oxford University trained doctors and all of our clinicians are qualified doctors working within the NHS. We pride ourselves on quality and we make safety our priority and therefore have all completed training to a Masters standard on the Harley Academy Level 7 course (OFQUAL registered). We believe that the aesthetics community should be held accountable for its practice and we adhere to the same strict health and safety standards that we are used to within the NHS.
Which locations do you currently cover?
We currently have clinicians based in London (Dr Louise Martin), Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire (Dr Jennifer Doyle) and County Durham, North Yorkshire & West of Scotland (Dr Aynsley Cresswell).
How do I arrange a consultation?
You can find contact details for your nearest clinician on the Contact page of the website.
What happens at my pre and post-treatment consultations?
Our initial consultations involve a detailed discussion about the right treatment for you. We will discuss your medical history and ensure that the treatment is safe for you. We take pre-treatment photographs, with your consent, and we use these for our own records and for insurance purposes only. We will not use your photographs for marketing purposes unless you have specifically consented to this. The follow- up clinic appointment is to assess the success of the treatment and discuss any ongoing aesthetic treatments you may wish to consider.
How do I know what treatment will be best for me?
We offer consultations with our clinicians prior to any procedure where we will discuss the best treatment options for you and how best to achieve your desired aesthetic goal. We aim to give an enhanced but natural result by working in partnership with you.
Botulinum toxin
What is botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin cosmetic treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes the deep, persistent facial lines that develop over time. One treatment – a few tiny injections – relax the muscles that cause those lines to form and keeps them relaxed for up to three months. Botulinum Toxin A has been approved by the FDA since 1989 as a safe and effective treatment for eye lid spasms, muscle spasms causing crossed eyes, as well as facial spasms. Moreover, it has been shown to be an effective non-surgical treatment in very low doses for facial lines and wrinkles if administered via a few small injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form.
Why don’t you call it “BOTOX”?
“Botox” is one of the trade names for the Botulin Toxin A derivative. However, there are several other brands of Botulinum Toxin. We use ‘Bocouture’ at Oxford Aesthetics, which is why we do not refer to it as ‘Botox’.
How does botulinum toxin work?
When botulinum toxin is injected into a muscle it temporarily relaxes the muscle by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses meaning the muscle is unable to contract. Overall, this gives the facial skin a softer, smoother and more youthful appearance. The effects of botulinum toxin are usually confined to the area injected; it does not travel around the body, and the effects wear off with time.
What can be treated with botulinum toxin?
Cosmetically, at Oxford Aesthetics, we use botulinum toxin to smooth fine lines and wrinkles in the following areas:
- Glabella frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
- Orbital creases (“crow’s feet”)
- Frontalis creases (surprise lines)
What are the benefits of botulinum toxin?
The benefits include an excellent non-surgical solution to smoother skin and a flawless complexion. This is a minimally invasive procedure that smooths the wrinkles in the face and forehead. It can also be used to lift drooping eyebrows resulting in a more youthful appearance. Medically, there are many benefits as can be seen through its extensive uses above.
What are the risks / side effects of botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin has an excellent safety record as a muscle relaxant. It has been used successfully in adults and children in a variety of medical conditions over the last 20 years and has been used cosmetically to treat facial wrinkles for about 15 years. It has become one of the most popular and frequently used cosmetic treatments.
Side effects: Most people experience only mild local pain at the time of the injections, or for a very short time afterwards. Immediately after, there may be mild swelling at the injection site which usually goes within 48 hours and slight bruising is also possible. Side effects of these treatments are extremely rare. Occasionally, the treatment may relax unintended nearby muscle groups causing temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelids. This may last for a few weeks but will resolve with time. As with any medicine an allergic reaction may occur, this is however quite rare. Conversely there may be some unintended benefits in some people such as easing of tension type headaches as the muscles in the forehead relax.

Is Botulinum toxin right for me?
Botulinum Toxin can be used for treating wrinkles in men and women, however men often need slightly higher doses than women.
We do not use it in:
We do not use it in:
- Clients with infection at the proposed injection site
- Clients who have previously had an allergic reaction to Botulinum toxin type A injections
- Clients with muscle problems or chronic diseases affecting the muscles, such aMyasthenia Gravis, Eaton Lambert syndrome
- Children under the age of 18 years
- Women who are pregnant or breast feeding
- Individuals at risk of bleeding as there is an increased risk of bruising post procedure. These include blood clotting disorders such as Haemophilia, those who are taking treatments with anticoagulant medicines such as Warfarin, Heparin, Aspirin and anti-Inflammatory medicines. Certain herbal remedies such as Gingiko Bilboa, St John’s Wort and Vitamin E can also increase the risk of bruising
- Individuals with excessive weakness or wasting in the muscle to be injected, such as those patients with history of stroke or Bell’s Palsy
- Individuals with chronic breathing difficulties
How long does the procedure take?
The treatment takes about 15 minutes, although a full consultation, including consent, photographs, and aftercare advice, can take up to 30 minutes.
What is the recovery time?
There is little or no recovery time after the injections. You are able to drive and go to work the same day. If you experience any pain (usually very minimal) it can be treated with paracetamol. The effects of the injection may be seen after 2-3 days with a maximum benefit reached in 2 weeks.
The cosmetic effects can last up to six months but typically last up to three months. Eventually most people require re-treatment as the wrinkles reappear. However, in some treated areas (such as frown wrinkles), the wrinkles may be less severe when they return after repeated treatments, as the unconscious muscle contraction habit is broken.
We offer all our clients a free two-week follow-up appointment to assess the effect of treatment.

Dermal Fillers
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a type of non-surgical aesthetic treatment used to add volume, structure and shape to the face, and smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal filler is injected into the skin using a variety of different techniques depending on the desired result. Popular areas for dermal filler injection include the lips and cheeks.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
The Dermal fillers used by Oxford Aesthetics doctors are all FDA approved Hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers which mimic the natural HA that occurs in the skin. HA has a number of important roles including providing the framework on which our skin cells sit, and retaining moisture in the skin. When injected, the dermal filler combines with water in the skin to add volume aiming to give a plump and youthful appearance.
What can be treated with Dermal Fillers?
- Lips: Add volume, definition and smooth the appearance of fine lines (often known as smoker’s lines)
- Cheeks: Add structure to the cheekbone area, replace volume lost naturally as part of the ageing process, and even reduce the appearance of ‘smile lines’ by lifting the cheek
- Tear Trough (under-eye bags): Reduce the appearance of hollowing and dark shadows under the eyes
- Nasol-labial folds (smile lines)
- Mouth-to-chin (Marionette lines)
What are the benefits of Dermal Fillers?
Clients will see immediate results from dermal filler injection with virtually no recovery time necessary. The filler is not permanent and will naturally break down over time, meaning your tailor-made treatment can be adapted over time to give a natural result.
What are the possible side effects of Dermal Fillers?
As with any procedure involving an injection through the skin, there is a small risk of infection, which is minimised by practitioners using an aseptic technique. There may be mild bleeding, bruising or swelling at the injection site, which will self-resolve. There have been rare but serious side effects associated with dermal fillers including blindness and intracranial complications. That is why we believe that these treatments should only be performed by medical professionals who have undergone post-graduate training and who are practised and skilled in such procedures.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure should take 30-45 minutes depending on the area being treated.
Do you use any anaesthetic?
Dermal filler treatments are usually very well tolerated. Many of our dermal fillers contains an anaesthetic called lidocaine which can minimise any discomfort when the filler is injected. Clients often report lip augmentation to be the most uncomfortable procedure, therefore at Oxford Aesthetics we used an anaesthetic cream applied to the lip area prior to the injection of the filler.
What is the Recovery time?
Clients can continue their normal activities after treatment with very few constraints. It is important to avoid the following for 24 hours after treatment:
- Excessive heat e.g steam room, sauna, jacuzzi
- Exercise
- Applying makeup directly to the injection site
- Alcohol
Chemical Peels and medical grade skincare
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a deep rejuvenation treatment in which an acidic solution is used to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin and can help to eliminate blemishes, acne scars, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation and sun damage whilst increasing overall texture and tightness. The chemical peel is one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world, and was performed in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to help people achieve smoother, more beautiful skin. Today, chemical facial peels are popular because they offer nearly immediate results and can be performed as an outpatient procedure.
Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:
Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:
- Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
- Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
- Improve the appearance of mild scars
- Treat certain types of acne
- Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or contraceptive pills
- Improve the look and feel of skin
- Areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling
How do chemical peels work?
The acidic solution exfoliates the outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new skin layer with improved tone, texture, and colour.
What are the benefits of chemical peels?
A chemical facial peel can provide several benefits to the skin. The procedure can restore a more youthful appearance to skin and reduce wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, sun-damage, and blotchy patches.
What are the risks of chemical peels?
Chemical peels rarely result in serious complications, but certain risks do exist. With light and medium peels, relatively mild chemical peel side effects such as redness, stinging, and crusting usually subside within a day or two after the treatment. The side effects of deep chemical peels are typically more pronounced, and recovery time is longer. More serious side effects, such as scarring, infection, swelling, changes in skin tone, and cold sore outbreaks are possible, especially with medium and deep chemical peels. However, serious side effects are rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified doctor and you can reduce the risks associated with facial peels by following all of the doctor’s instructions completely and by providing your doctor with a complete medical history.
What skin care is involved after a chemical peel?
After you have undergone a skin peel, the treated layers of skin gradually flake away, revealing a fresh new layer of skin.
Depending upon the type of chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling as well as blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. You'll need to avoid the sun or apply sun protection after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile. Skin heals more efficiently in a moist environment so speak with your doctor about an effective moisturiser.
After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day (even in the UK when you are not sunbathing). It should say "broad-spectrum" on the label, meaning it protects against the sun's UVA and UVB rays. Also, it should be a physical sunscreen and be above SPF 30. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

How often will I need to have chemical peels?
Although chemical peels can help repair visible damage on the surface of the skin, they cannot repair the irreversible damage of the sun and other factors associated with aging. In fact, if clients are receiving chemical peels and continue to sunbathe with no SPF they will most likely get more damage than they previously had. Superficial peels are performed to reduce the appearance of fine lines, even out skin tone and to treat acne. The deeper peels are performed for these same reasons but because they penetrate deeper into the skin, they will create a wound response to stimulate collagen production as well. Receiving this treatment once will give the skin visible results, however it needs to be done on a more consistent basis to receive the best outcome. Keeping this in mind it is important to know that depending on the amount of damage one has on the skin they may need several treatments. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you're after. Medium-depth peels may be repeated in six to 12 months, if necessary.
How long does the procedure take?
The application and treatment is relatively simple and tolerable. The skin is prepped and cleansed and application (depending on the treatment) takes between 30-45 minutes, depending on the number of coats your doctor has determined are necessary for you.
The application will involve one or more chemical solutions -- such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol) -- to small areas of your skin. That creates a controlled wound, letting new skin take its place.
During a chemical peel, most people feel a burning sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may ease that stinging. You may need pain medication during or after a deeper peel.

What is the recovery time?
The recovery time after a chemical peel depends on the type of peel administered, because each type of peel affects the skin to a different degree.
- Light chemical peels: These mild peels require virtually no recovery time. Though the skin may be mildly irritated after the peel, patients can return to their daily activities immediately after treatment.
- Medium chemical peels: The new layer of skin appears three to seven days after treatment. About two weeks after treatment, the skin will be fully healed.
- Deep chemical peels: The new layer of skin begins to appear seven to ten days after treatment, though complete healing can take two months or longer. Patients typically take a week off from work after undergoing a deep chemical peel.
MICRONEEDLING
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT). It is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles in order to induce tissue remodelling via production of the body’s own collagen.
How does microneedling work?
SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling – to prompt tissue remodelling without causing scar tissue formation (Fernandes, D. OralLMaxillofacial Surg Clin 2005: 17:51-63). Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.
What are the benefits of microneedling?
Microneedling has been shown to improve:
- skin texture
- the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- the appearance of scars (including acne scarring and stretch marks)
What is the Skin Pen?
SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only microneedling device in the world cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars. With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your appearance for six months after your last treatment.
How long does the procedure take?
The microneedlng itself takes about 15-20 minutes. The appointment, however, will be longer to include time for a local anaesthetic cream to be applied and left on the area to be treated for 35 minutes. Overall your appointment will be 60-90 minutes.
Are there any risks with the procedure?
Microneedling using the SkinPen is safe. SkinPen’s patent-pending – and single-use – sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. No other manufacturer can make that claim, which is part of the reason SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device.
Overall, if you take the advice from your practitioner there are few risks. If you do not follow the advice regarding sun exposure, exercise or use of topical skincare within the advised post- procedure timescale then unexpected complications such as infection may occur.
SkinPen should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane).

Does it hurt?
With the use of topical anaesthetic, most patients report feeling only the slight vibration of SkinPen during the procedure.
How many sessions will I need?
Your doctor may recommend a course of procedures based on your individual goals, and a usual starting protocol would be three treatments spaced at monthly intervals. Maintenance might require multiple treatments.
What is the recovery time?
The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced were dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions resolved over time without any further complications, and mostly by 24-48 hours. Your doctor will provide Skinfuse® LIFT, a clean, non-cytotoxic hydrogel used to prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment.
EYELASH ENHANCER SERUM
WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS FOR BIMATOPROST TREATMENT?
Bimatoprost is the generic drug name, also known as Lumigan (brand name- used as eye drop to treat glaucoma). Latisse is the brand name for the bimatoprost based medication that gained FDA approval in the USA for the treatment of hypotrichosis, making eyelashes grow longer, thicker and darker. Clinical trials found that on average lashes were 25% longer, 106% thicker and 18% darker.
Hypotrichosis is a medical term for short or missing lashes. It is frequently seen in men and women as they approach middle age. Bimatoprost is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle by increasing the length of the growth phase and increasing the number of hairs along the eyelid margin. The onset of action is gradual with most users seeing a significant improvement in the length and number of lashes by 2 months. If Latisse™ is discontinued the eyelashes and eyelids will return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Bimatoprost acts on receptors in the hair follicle to stimulate the follicle to enter the growth phase causing them to grow longer and thicker.
WHY DON’T YOU SUPPLY LATISSE?
Latisse is the brand name in the USA for bimatoprost 0.03% solution that has been FDA approved for the treatment of eyelash hypotrichosis. Latisse is not officially distributed in the UK. The ingredient in Lumigan or bimatoprost solution is the same as Latisse (ie. bimatoprost 0.03% solution)
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO USE THE SERUM TO SEE AN EFFECT?
You will start to notice a gradual increase in the thickness and length of your lashes in the first few weeks of treatment. Full results are seen at around 16 weeks.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS and POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF USING BIMATOPROST?
- The following side effects are the most frequently reported, but occur in less than 4% of users (i.e. 4 out of 100 users):
- Eye irritation and itching
- Conjunctival hyperaemia or red eye (redness of the white, moist covering of the eyeball)
- Dry eye symptoms
- Eyelid redness
- Although rare, bimatoprost has the potential to permanently increase the brown pigmentation of the iris (colored part of the eyeball, inside the eye).
- Bimatoprost may cause hyperpigmentation or darkening of the eyelid skin which may or may not be reversible upon discontinuation of the treatment.
- Bimatoprost may lower intraocular pressure (IOP) or pressure inside the eye; however, the magnitude of this reduction is usually not a cause for concern.
- If you have a history of abnormal eye pressures or glaucoma you should only use bimatoprost under the close supervision of your ophthalmologist
- Inform anyone conducting an eye pressure examination that you are using bimatoprost
- You should inform your ophthalmologist that you are using bimatoprost if eye surgery is planned.
- Do not use Bimatoprost if you are allergic or hypersensitive to bimatoprost ( or Lumigan) or any other ingredient in this product.
- Bimatoprost is intended for use on the skin at the base of the eyelashes of the UPPER eyelids only.
- DO NOT APPLY to the lower eyelids as this will increase the chance of side effects such as hyperpigmentation or darkening of the eyelid skin.
- You should discontinue use of Bimatoprost and inform your Oxford Aesthetics Doctor immediately if you develop an eye infection, sudden decrease in vision, suffer eye trauma, or develop eye or eyelid reactions.
WHAT IF I WEAR CONTACT LENSES?
Contact lenses should be removed prior to applying Bimatoprost to the eyelashes, and can be reinserted 30 minutes following its use.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP USING THE SERUM?
Your eyelashes will revert to their original appearance after a period of weeks to months.
HOW DO I APPLY THE SERUM?
Your Oxford Aesthetics Doctor will provide you with applicators and show you how to apply the serum to the base of the upper lid lashes. The serum is applied once a day.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS OF USING BIMATOPROST?
You should NOT use Bimatoprost if:
- you are allergic or hypersensitive to bimatoprost or any other ingredient in this product
- are about to undergo cataract or other eye procedures
- have an intraocular inflammation (uveitis)
- have risk factors for macular oedema
- have an eye infection
- have glaucoma or told you are at risk of developing glaucoma
- are under the age of 18
- are pregnant or breast-feeding
Profhilo
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is an exciting treatment that is causing a real buzz in the Aesthetics industry and has won numerous awards since its launch in 2015. It is type of hyaluronic acid, at a high concentration, that is injected into the skin to treat skin laxity, boost and hydrate the skin, as well as remodelling aging and sagging skin. It can be used on the face and hands, and is particularly good for treating ‘crepey’ skin on the neck. Profhilo is not a dermal filler or a skin booster, but a ‘bioremodelling agent’.
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo is injected into specific points in the area being treated, spreading under the skin like honey resulting in increased skin hydration. It also stimulates the skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin to smooth and tighten the treatment area. Profhilo is advised for clients from around the age of 30 up, as this is when you start to naturally lose collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
How many sessions will I need ?
For the full treatment effect you will need to have two Profhilo treatments, which are 3-6 weeks apart. Results are not immediate, but occur gradually over a number of weeks, and will start to become evident after the second treatment. The results usually last for 6 months. For maintenance, it is recommended to have a single treatment every 4-6 months.
What are the possible side effects?
As with any injection, there is a risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as the possibility of infection. Good injection technique and keeping the procedure sterile will minimise these risks, as well as following the aftercare advice.
How long does the procedure take ?
The procedure takes 45 minutes, including a pre-treatment consultation.
What is the recovery time
There will be small lumps where the product has been injected for approximately 4-6 hours, but they can last up to 24 hours. On the face, this is 5 injections on each side. After the treatment, we advise avoiding strenuous activity, saunas, steam rooms and alcohol for 24 hours.
Does it hurt?
There is some discomfort during the injections, but this is short lived and most clients tolerate it very well.
injectable skin boosters
What is Redensity 1 skin booster?
Teosyal redensity 1 is a type of hyaluronic acid that is injected into the skin to restore skin density, prevent premature aging, and maintain glow. It is composed of ingredients naturally found in the skin, including amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. This treatment is most often used on the face and neck.
How does it work?
Redensity 1 is delivered into the skin in a number of small micro-injections over the area to be treated. The hyaluronic acid attracts water to increase skin hydration, brightness and texture. The skin booster is not a traditional dermal filler- it will not fill out wrinkles and lines, but will improve skin firmness, texture and glow.
How many sessions will I need?
For the best outcome, you will require three treatments, at 3 week intervals. For maintainence, usually one treatment 3 times per year is required.

AQUALYX
What is Aqualyx?
Aqualyx is an injectable fat-dissolving treatment. It is a solution containing deoxycholic acid. This is a bile acid which is produced by our livers naturally in order to aid the digestion of fat.
How does aqualyx work?
The active substance binds to the fat cell wall and causes the cell wall to become unstable. The cell wall breaks down and the fat stored within is released. Your body then absorbs and excretes this fat. The effect of aqualyx is permanent assuming that you do not gain weight after the treatment. It is important to recognise that AQUALYX is not a weight loss treatment , and healthy eating & exercise are required to ensure success of the treatment.
How many sessions will I need ?
The number of treatments needed varies according to the amount of fat that is needed to be dissolved to achieve the desired aesthetic result. The individual reaction of the fat tissue can also influence how many treatments are needed. On average you should expect to require between 3-5 treatments approximately 3-4 weeks apart.
What are the possible risks/ side effects?
Aqualyx is regarded as a safe treatment. The manufacturers have reported no major side effects. Complications with Aqualyx are rare. Swelling, redness and bruising are expected side effects which resolve within 1-2 weeks. You may experience some discomfort during the treatment; however we do add a local anaesthetic to the solution to make it more comfortable.
As with any injection, there is a risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as the possibility of infection. Good injection technique and keeping the procedure sterile will minimise these risks, as well as following the aftercare advice.

Understanding the Science of Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides, the fundamental building blocks of DNA, possess remarkable healing and regenerative qualities. Our Ameela® treatments harness these properties by utilising polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA, known for their hydrating and tissue-regenerating capabilities, and perfectly compatible with human skin.
Ameela®: Precision-Engineered for Age-Defying Results
Ameela®'s formula is meticulously designed to target rejuvenation at the cellular level, significantly reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Our clients have reported noticeable improvements in skin firmness and texture.
